Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court ruled that it was not possible to lead a happy married life with a life partner having low IQ.
The couple had got married on November 27, 2009 in Nagpur. After marriage, the husband found that the woman was not able to see properly and used to quarrel with him over petty issues. According to petition on December 22, 2009, after a quarrel, the wife suddenly cracked her fingers and then scratched herself. Case was filed in family court Nagpur. The psychologist and psychiatrist had stated in the court that an acceptable IQ was 90 and it was difficult to lead a happy married life with someone whose IQ is under 70. In this case The IQ of the woman is 62 and it cannot be improved with medication. On the basis of this statement and opinion court granted the divorce.
Wife appealed against this judgement in the high court of Bombay. Nagpur bench of Bombay high court, on Tuesday granted divorce on grounds of cruelty, upholding the opinion of a psychologist and psychiatrist that it is very difficult to lead a happy married life with a woman who has low IQ.
